Deputy Labor Pick Advances Out of Committee, Nears Confirmation

The Senate labor committee approved Keith Sonderling’s nomination to serve as the second-in-command at the US Department of Labor, teeing up the nominee for Senate confirmation.

The panel voted 12-11 along party lines to advance his nomination for deputy labor secretary on Thursday.

Sonderling, a former Republican commissioner on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, told the panel last week that he was committed to reviewing the agency’s enforcement divisions to ensure they have the resources necessary amid Trump’s mass restructuring of the federal government.
